Beloved Old Tree comes from 39 years of designing and hand-making furniture.

Most of my commissions begin with a need that can’t be found in any retail store, a desire for something unique, personal, and special.

Over those years, I’ve refined my sense of what each client valued, from beautiful and useful design, to the hand of the craftsman, to the story of the wood itself — when a customer has a beloved old tree that has come down in their yard, and a hope that it won’t go to waste.

I’ve brought this vision of environmental stewardship and personal connection to schools and companies, as well as families.

Me? I’m a woodworker by choice, nearly an academic by trade, and a writer by night.
